Drum culture has a long history in China and the drum music of Jiangzhou, Shanxi, is a distinguished lineage in China’ s drum culture. With its worldwide reputation, Jiangzhou Drum Music was among the first items to be included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China, and was inscribed onto the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre’s List of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage o f Humanity in 2002. This concert also includes local performers who had travelled to Jiangzhou, Shanxi— a cradle of drum culture—for the past decade to learn and inherit this art form. They will join the performance to share with Hong Kong audiences the unforgettable memories of drumming alongside Jiangzhou drummers. It embodies the inheritance and promotion of traditional culture. The concert will feature classic Jiangzhou drumming pieces like Rolling Walnuts, Fight Between the Bull and the Tiger, A Mice’s Wedding and Roll Call of Soldiers by the King of Qin.
