Miranda Chin Dance Company’s Hé The Rite of Spring was selected as a recipient of funding from the China National Arts Fund in 2024 in the cultural exchange category. The performance Hé The Way of Painting in Dance is inspired by the Chinese ink painting from renowned artist and designer Dr Kan Tai-keung. Adopting the concepts of traditional Chinese medicine meridians, it incorporates imageries based on natural sceneries like snowy mountains, flying waterfalls, pine trees and waters. The dance also combines Chinese traditional elements such as Qi, Rhythm, Meridians, philosophy with technology and dance movements. The second piece is accompanied by Igor Stravinsky’s composition The Rite of Spring, whereby dancers will highlight the theme of ‘shared origin of martial arts and dance’ by bringing in Chinese martial arts movements from Tai Chi, Tuishou and Sanda. Towards the end, Dr Miranda Chin will lead audiences to try out the Tai Chi dance in unison.
